Spatiotemporal prediction in the cortical processing of natural visual information (A09#)

Subject Area Human Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 222641018

Project Description

Predictive processing theories view cortical feedback mechanisms as essential for vision innatural environments. Although recent research shows that feedback is coded in specific brainrhythms, we do not know enough about how such oscillatory feedback enables efficientperception. In this project, we employ a combination of spatially, temporally, and spectrallyresolved neural recordings and computational modelling to resolve how predictive feedbacksupports two critical computations in real-world vision: (1) the integration of information acrossvisual space, and (2) the interpolation of information that is momentarily unavailable.
