Control of innate immune cell trafficking and clearance by REG proteins in the diseased heart (B08)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Anatomy and Physiology
Immunology
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 456687919

The function of different immunomodulatory REG proteins in the control of macrophage trafficking and neutrophil clearance in the diseased heart after acute myocardial infarction will be explored. It will be determined whether REG3γ and REG4 eliminate different subsets of neutrophils compared to REG3β, or serve different purposes. The effects of conditional inactivation of Reg3g, Reg4 and the Reg gene cluster will be analyzed in single and compound mouse mutants as well as in neonatal and adult hearts. Finally, it will be determined whether reprogramming of cardiomyocytes to a regeneration-competent state has an impact on immune cells and rewinds the cardio-immunological network.
