Project Details
Unified particle-based simulation of melt flows and solidification processes considering thermoelasto-viscoplastic solid state behavior to increase precision (A13*)
Subject Area
Fluid Mechanics
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 236616214
The goal of subproject A13 (N) is to develop a method based on the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method (SPH) for a unified simulation of both melt flows and solid state behavior during and after solidification within a single numerical discretization. This approach builds on the successful preliminary work from a previous accompanying project of A04 (under participation of A10) and on the work of subproject B07 on modeling of thermoelasto-viscoplastic material properties. Currently, such a simulation approach has not yet been realized within the SFB1120. The method is intended to simulate the weld seam structures in the melt-based manufacturing processes of Gas Metal Arc welding (A04) and Laser Metal Deposition (A11) as well as the sprayed layer structures and their respective interaction with the work piece in Thermal Spraying (A10).
