Fast non-relativistic and even relativistic outflows occur frequently in cosmic high-energy radiation sources and have been identified as the main contributors to the apparent luminosity by their nonthermal radiation. One common central issue of these intense cosmic radiation sources is the understanding of the dissipation processes of the available free kinetic energy in the surrounding collision-free interstellar and intergalactic plasmas. Our project is concerned with the microphysical plasma processes of this dissipation mechanism. Confinement by self-generated electromagnetic turbulence is also important for galactic and interplanetary cosmic rays.
