Respiratory complex I is a 1 MDa membrane protein complex with a central role in mitochondrial energy metabolism. Although the structure of complex I has been determined at high resolution, the mechanism of redox-coupled proton translocation remains controversial. In project P14, our goal is to elucidate the catalytic cycle and to understand the biogenesis of the intricate multi protein complex in molecular detail.
