Project Details
Mechanical integrity of Thermal Barrier Coatings - Coating Development and Micromechanics (D02)
Subject Area
Fluid Mechanics
Mechanics
Mechanics
Term
from 2008 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 26293245
This project investigates thermal barrier coatings for the protection of the combustion chamber. Laser-cycling experiments will be conducted to investigate failure mechanisms of the coatings. These investiga-tions will be supported by micro-mechanical simulations. Mechanical and thermophysical property data needed in the simulations are measured using free-standing coatings materials. All results are synthesized in a damage and failure model for the coating system which will be validated with the test-chamber experi-ments in D9. This failure model will be used to design a coating system for the Demonstrator of project K4.
