Adiabatic approximation and linear response theory are fundamental and very general theoretical tools for the description and analysis of quantum systems. Therefore, their mathematically sound justification and the rigorous understanding of the limits of their applicability has been and still is a central topic in mathematical physics. Only in recent years has there been a breakthrough in this regard for many-body quantum systems with short-range interactions, in some cases developing and refining ideas from theoretical physics such as the quasi-adiabatic evolution. In the present project, we investigate the question to what extent these new ideas and methods can be further developed in such a way that they are also applicable to many-body quantum systems with long-range interactions. A further goal here is to understand the limits of the validity of these approximations with respect to the range of the interaction, and to investigate possible implications in areas such as quantum information theory and quantum metrology.
