Modelling of injection, mixing and combustion in rocket engines under real-gas conditions (C01)

Subject Area Fluid Mechanics
Technical Thermodynamics
Term from 2008 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 26293245

Project Description

Final goal of this research project is the development of hybrid multiscale methods to simulate the high pressure real gas turbulent mixing and combustion processes in an entire rocket combustion chamber for propellant combinations LOX/H2 and LOX/CH4 and their application in the virtual demonstrator project. LES and RANS simulation tools developed in FP2 will be improved regarding accuracy of thermodynamical and fluid dynamical modelling and regarding numerical efficiency. The methods will be demonstrated by highly resolved LES of multiinjector mixing and simulations of full combustor validation configurations.
