Project Description

The aim of our project is the MRI-based evaluation of the arterial blood flow and resulting cerebral perfusion as well as wall shear stress with possible consecutive plaque disruption during antegrade or retrograde extracorporeal circulation (ECC) in atherosclerotic rabbits. This project will be realized in an interdisciplinary team. High-definition 4D-MRI flow measurements will be conducted using a miniaturized ECC in rabbits with induced cardiovascular calcification. Speci aims: • Induction of atherosclerotic plaques in a rabbit model • Investigation of the impact of different ECC scenarios (antegrade or retrograde perfusion) on cerebral perfusion, endothelial disorders, and the mobilization of atherosclerotic plaques
