Project Details
Multimessenger signatures of tidal disruption events (A06)
Subject Area
Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 445052434
Tidal Disruption Events (TDEs) are events in which a star or exoplanet passes close to a supermassive black hole and is tidally disrupted. As some stellar debris is ejected, accretion of the remaining material onto the black hole occurs and, in some cases, relativistic jets are formed. This project will observe TDEs using multimessenger methods (radio wavelengths to gamma energies, neutrinos) and compare them to theoretical predictions. For the first time, this project will investigate whether TDEs detected in the radio can be sources of high-energy neutrinos, as well as quantify the electromagnetic indicators of neutrino emission.
