Entanglement in quantum systems plays an important role for quantifying the complexity of states and allows for detecting different phases in many-body systems. In this project we want to obtain a detailed understanding of entanglement generation in systems with few particles with and without a classical limit. Our central approach is to start from two systems with known properties, bring them into interaction and then establish universal properties of the coupled system. In particular we want to investigate coupled bipartitespin-chains in dependence on both the strength and the type of the coupling and describe universal aspects of both bipartite and multipartite entanglement analytically using appropriate random matrix models.For quantum systems with classical limit, such as the Bose-Hubbard model, a fundamental question is how the entanglement generation depends on the corresponding classical limit. Especially the case of a mixed phase space, where regular and chaotic motion coexist, is expected to significantly impact the entanglement generation, which should also be observable in experiments.
