Subject Area
Empirical Social Research
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 290045248
The new subproject investigates spatial conflicts linked to the digital marketplace of Airbnb along the spatial figures of place, network space and territorial space. Comparing the cities of Berlin (Germany), Cape Town (South Africa) and San Francisco (USA), tensions and interrelationships between the spatial figures and the specific regime of the digital platform economy are analyzed. Extensive data analysis and case studies will provide important insights into Airbnb as one exemplary case for the refiguration of spaces in the context of platform economies.
