Project Details
Remodeling of tricellular junctions controls paracellular transport (B11*)

During oogenesis in oviparous animals, tricellular junctions in the follicular epithelium open transiently to allow passage of yolk proteins for uptake by the oocyte. We will study this process, referred to as patency, using Drosophila as a model system to understand how the dynamic remodeling of adhesion complexes at the interface between three cells controls epithelial permeability. We will investigate how the regulation of endocytosis, actomyosin contractility and of cell volume mediate transient opening of cell vertices.
