Exercise has many beneficial effects including a regulation of adaptive thermogenesis. Centered around the finding that exercise-conditioned sera from athletes enhance human adipocyte UCP1 expression, we will investigate the effect of different exercise modes and of exercise training on adaptive thermogenesis in humans. Mechanistically, this project will specifically investigate metabolites that regulate “browning” (proteome- and metabolome-based approach) and whether miRNAs in exosomes, termed exomiRs, mediate crosstalk in-between muscle and adipocytes especially during exercise.
