Dark-matter searches with gamma-ray telescopes and wide-field cosmological surveys (F05)

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 445052434

Project Description

This project combines expertise from astroparticle physics and observational cosmology to address the question of dark matter in dwarf galaxies and its connection to the large-scale cosmological structure of the Universe. Cosmological surveys will be used to create a complete dwarf galaxy sample to identify optimal candidates for dark-matter searches. The gamma-ray telescopes MAGIC and CTA will then be used to search for dark-matter annihilation signatures, comparing them to the expected astrophysical background. Finally, the observed large-scale dark matter structures will be cross-correlated with gamma-ray data.
