MHD halos of starburst galaxies (A04)

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 445052434

Project Description

The goal of this project is to understand dynamical halos in starburst galaxies. The structure of the self-consistently calculated magnetic fields and the evolution of magneto-hydrodynamic turbulence in the dynamical halos will be investigated by combining theoretical results and observations in the radio wavelength range. Further, position and properties of Galactic termination shocks will be quantified. Finally, the importance of both the baryonic and dark matter in the halo will be evaluated in order to achieve a deeper understanding of the role of dark matter in galactic systems in collaboration with the other projects of CIM.
