Today, researchers are increasingly questioning the division between Ottoman and post-Ottoman history. In line with a more general interest among historians in the period of imperial transformation in the early 20th century, the last decades of Ottoman history are no longer studied as a prelude to nation-state formation. As part of the same trend, the Ottoman legacy of post-Ottoman states, as well as the implementation of national projects of modernization, are coming under much closer scrutiny than ever before. As more and more studies show, familiarity with Ottoman history and a consideration of its legacy enrich and deepen our understanding of post-Ottoman nation-states. A systematic consideration of post-Ottoman history, however, has only just begun, and a place for in-depth discussion does as yet not exist. This project aims to fill this gap by bringing together emerging scholars who are trained as Ottomanists and whose work bridges the gap between Ottoman history and that of its successor states as well as mandate areas. The objective of the network is to produce a special issue of a peer reviewed journal that focuses on "Post-Ottoman Transformations". The aim of this network is to produce a special issue of a peer-reviewed journal tentatively titled „Post-Ottoman Transformations“. The contributions to that issue shall be presented and discussed in the course of the six meetings. The meetings will also be documented in the form of a German-language podcast that will make ongoing research accessible to an interested public.
