The project will provide a comprehensive overview of the rebuilding of Jewish communities in Greece after the war and the various living conditions and spatial circumstances the survivors faced. In 1949, the Organization for the Relief and Rehabilitation of Greek Jews (Οργανισμός Περιθάλψεως και Αποκαταστάσεως Ισραηλιτών Ελλάδος, OPAIE) was founded to ensure the administration of heirless jewish assets. In this regard, 1949 symbolizes the end of the first phase of the revival of Jewish life in Greece. Using archival, literary, and autobiographical sources from Germany, Greece, Israel, and the USA, the political, social, and economic circumstances in Greece after the Holocaust will be examined, which determined the survivors' decision to start a new life in the post-Holocaust period.
