Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 441234705

Project Description

In project S02, we will investigate the possibility of directly controlling electrons in solids with electric fields of intense laser pulses, which opens up routes for developing lightwave-driven electronics at petahertz rates. Progress along this route requires the understanding of intense laser-solid interactions on sub-cycle time-scale. We will use of the valley degree of freedom of crystals and the electronic coherence to perform elementary operations at the few-femtosecond time scale. We will apply the highly nonlinear optical response and machine learning to write and read-out the information in solids and to resolve electron dynamics on sub-femtosecond and sub-angstrom scale.
