Ultrashort laser pulses have been already employed to generate, manipulate and detect coherent magnons on elementary timescales in magnetic materials. So far, the vast majority of experiments revealed dynamics well described semiclassically. This project aims at exploring a highly nonlinear regime of coherent spin dynamics induced by resonantly exciting pairs of magnons near the edges of the Brillouin zone with mid-infrared frequencies. The resulting processes will be monitored relying on a variety of complementary experimental approaches in order to verify intrinsically quantum mechanical properties such as squeezing and entanglement.
