Open-Access-Publication Funding / 2022 - 2024 / German Primate Center - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research (DPZ)

Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 491454463

The German Primate Center conducts biological and biomedical research on and with nonhuman primates at a high scientific level. The most important visible expression of the institute's research achievements are the publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Under the premise that scientific knowledge should be freely accessible and reusable without restriction, the DPZ strives for a steadily increase of the Open Access portion of its publications and therefore covers the publication fees for articles in gold Open Access journals from central funds of the institute.Data on publications and the costs associated with publication are systematically recorded electronically using the reference management software Citavi and the administration software MACH. In order to ensure the greatest possible transparency of the costs associated with publications, such as a more detailed evaluation of the various publication costs (gold OA, hybrid OA, submission costs, page charges, etc.), only moderate adjustments to the data recording are necessary. In the last three years, a total of 141,300 € was paid for OA publications of the Institute. The largest portion was paid to Springer Nature Publishers, especially for articles in Nature journals. Also considerable payments were made to the classic OA publishers Frontiers Media and PloS. In addition to the publishers’ website, OA publications from the DPZ are also made available and long-term archived in the Göttingen Campus repository GoeScholar. The DPZ published 90 eligible OA publications in 2018-2020 as defined by the DFG funding programme.
