Subject Area

Spin quantum microscopy is about to develop into a new tool for material science, especially for the investigation of electronic and magnetic properties of solids. Yet, its current limitation in terms of accessible temperature and magnetic field, hampers investigation of a large variety of intriguing quantum properties of solids. The proposal concerns the installation and use of a spin-based scanning probe system operating in a wide temperature range, specifically below 1K and at large (>3T) magnetic fields. By combining the expertise of the applicants, i.e. from quantum physics, high frequency electrical engineering, solid state physics and chemistry, we strive to use the high-field low temperature spin quantum microscope to measure quantum phase transitions and quantum criticality, explore the nature of superconducting-to´-insulator transition as well as investigate transport properties in topological materials and phase behavior of 2D magnetic systems.
