Bielefeld University has been providing an open access publication fund since 2008. Participation in the DFG funding program "Open Access Publishing" until 2019 and, since 2022, in the first phase of the DFG funding program "Open Access Publication Costs" has helped to consolidate the structures for the permanent financing and administration of open access publishing. In the current project phase, which will run until the end of 2024, the prerequisite for the introduction of an information budget in accordance with the “German Science and Humanities Council” (Wissenschaftsrat, WR) was created, which is to be introduced in the follow-up project. Accompanying measures in the organizational, technical and legal areas ensure that Bielefeld University researchers continue to be provided with a reliable service for making their research results available in open access.
