The machine applied for is used for tensile and compressive loading of test specimens made of different materials. The unique feature of this machine is the possibility to vary the amount of applied load over the cross-section of the test specimen. Thus, required crack geometries can be adjusted and also the movement of a crack in the test specimen (e.g. under earthquake loading) can be simulated. Active control according to the required crack width parameters is possible and allows to freeze the crack state over required time periods and to compensate for creep effects of the concrete. This is essential, for example, for the investigation of specimens and crack geometry using computed tomography. In addition, the equipment applied for makes it possible to load inserts or retrofitted fasteners under alternating tensile and or alternating transverse loads. The control system allows control of the load with the associated crack geometry over any period of time.
