Sub-project C4 will be dealing with the microscopical mechanisms of fatigue of high manganese steels. It will be studied, in particular, how heterogeneous dislocation structures and the related surface morphology develop in dependence of stacking fault energy, content of interstitial atoms, grain size and pre-deformation. At the same time, the scanning electron microscopy-based methods applied for our investigations, in particular the electron channeling contrast (ECC) method and the Kikuchi bandlet method, will be optimized further.
