With the `Königsgrab von Seddin’, the state of Brandenburg possesses a bronze age archaeological site of European significance. Located within a distance of only 1000 metres directly to the north lies the so-called `Wickbold’sches Wäldchen’, containing extensive barrow cemeteries and further great burial mounds. In between, centrically traversed by a small creek, a spacious settlement area of the same period has been identified. Trial trenches yielded a vast array of features that range from structuring ditches to fire pits and duct-like pit features. Questions concerning its inner structure, the existence of post constructions as well as the dating of the occupation phases need to be answered, in order to gain a reliable overview of the settlement. Various indications pointing towards the economic und sacral significance of the settlement site have to be considered as well. These leads should be providing further insight into the material culture, the provision of food and the ecological conditions. The extent of the features within the landscape suggests a major Late Bronze Age settlement that is adjoining the most meaningful Central European burial mound of period V and might have held a significant status within the European Bronze Age communication network.
