The proposed NMR spectrometer is required to maintain the research activities at the Institute of Chemistry at the University of Kassel, particularly important for the synthesis oriented working groups Siemeling and Pietschnig as main users, but as well for cooperative initiatives where chemistry contributes molecular model systems to investigate fundamental aspects of chirality (CRC 1319 (ELCH)) and defined quantum systems (LOEWE SMolBits) in collaboration with groups from physics and engineering. At the Institute of Chemistry, investigations in the Siemeling group are centered around ferrocene based N-heterocyclic carbenes and their heavier tetrylene homologues (Si-Pb), as well as mesomeric betaines as „Instant-Carbenes“. In the Pietschnig group the focus is set on organoelement chemistry, especially organophosphorus and organosilicon chemistry investigating phosphorus ligands and luminescent phosphacycles, bisphosphanyl tetrylenes and bond activation in phosphorus-rich molecular frameworks. For all these research topics heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy is an essential part and central technique to investigate questions of constitution, bonding, reactivity and kinetics.
