The proposed research is intended to provide new insights into the multidimensional and multiple time-scaled nature of cognitive and sensorimotor aging. To approach these issues, the research plan is to pursue two theoretically interrelated projects: (1) investigate the dynamic aspects of correlated longitudinal changes across measures of physiological and cognitive functioning using recently advanced statistical methods for testing multivariate dynamical couplings and (2) examine longitudinal antecedent of intraindividual variability in cognitive performances. I would like to conduct these projects during a one-year post-doc stipend funded by the DFG at the Australian National University in close collaboration with Prof. Kaarin Anstey. Prof. Anstey is an internationally highly regarded expert in the field of sensorimotor and cognitive aging and longitudinal research. Depending on the funding from the DFG the suggested projects promise to resolve some important theoretical issues regarding mind-andbody interactions during the course of adult aging that are currently under debate.
