The production of monomers from bio-based platform chemicals has great potential to reduce the chemical industry's demand for fossil resources. N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone monomers are accessible via bio-based carboxylic acids such as itaconic and and succinic acid. However, few studies discuss possible solid catalysts for these transformations, and a basic understanding of structural-activity relationships is not yet available. This project is engaged in a comprehensive analysis of reaction and catalyst systems with the aim of identifying relevant factors for the design of effective catalysts.
