Project Details
Extending and controlling lymphocyte functionalities by engineered cytokines (A04)
Subject Area
Biochemistry
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 452881907
Cytokines are small secreted proteins that mediate many of the immunological functions performed by lymphocytes. Engineered cytokines thus provide opportunities to specifically control lymphocyte functions in desired ways, but also to equip them with functionalities that currently limit their therapeutic use e.g. in fighting solid tumors. During this project, we will rationally engineer immune-activating cytokines with improved safety for therapeutic use. Additionally, we will develop bio-orthogonal regulatory cytokine:receptor systems to control lymphocytes. The work will be highly interdisciplinary from in silico to in vivo approaches and closely collaborate with multiple other members of the TRR.
