Within the Cluster of Excellence "ImmunoSensation2", Felix Meissner was recently appointed as a W3 professor. He is a long-standing expert in MS-based proteomics and will transfer cutting edge technology developed in his research laboratory at the MPI of Biochemistry to the University of Bonn. Felix Meissner will establish an MS infrastructure at the Campus Venusberg as part of his Berufungsvereinbarung. This application includes a mass spectrometer for the research of the Meissner laboratory, and will support research activities within Collaborative Research Centers, the 'Immunosensation2' Cluster of Excellence, and the biomedical campus in Bonn.In the context of this recruitment, the Faculty of Medicine has identified a unique opportunity to build up clinical proteomics for biomarker discovery and patient stratification from liquid and solid biopsies. The faculty has therefore decided to establish a novel service unit exclusively dedicated to clinical proteomics with Felix Meissner as a scientific head. This application includes a mass spectrometer for the new Translational Proteomics Core Facility, which will facilitate streamlined clinical proteomics services at the biomedical campus in Bonn and beyond. The faculty has developed a new overarching concept for an extended proteomics service within the Bonn Technology Campus Life Sciences, explained in detail in the Mantelantrag.
