Hypotheses about the origin and function of storytelling should be tested against narratives from societies whose living conditions approximate those that shaped the design of our species. Accordingly, we are assembling a forager folklore archive that will enable the generation of evolutionarily relevant study samples for cross-cultural, quantitative investigations of story content and structure.
