From the 8th to the 11th centuries hundreds of scientific and philosophical works were translated from Greek into Arabic. The vocabulary of these translations is of eminent interest not only for Arabic Studies, but also for the History of Sciences, History of Philosophy, Classical Philology, and Byzantine Studies. The interdisciplinary aim of the present project consists in making easily accessible the Greek and Arabic vocabulary of these translations in the form of concise, well structured lexicographical entries. The dictionary will provide English translations of the medieval Arabic terminology such that it can be used productively by non-Arabists. Furthermore, each Greek-Arabic equivalence will be accompanied by references to the relevant primary sources and/or to already existing dictionaries or data-bases, in order to facilitate and foster, on this basis, diverse open-ended research approaches.
