The exact formulae of new compounds or compounds of interest determined by high resolution mass spectrometry is an essential method for their unambiguous characterization required by many research groups located at the institute of chemistry at the Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. We intend to establish high resolution mass spectrometry as a routine analytical method at the institute of chemistry. We focus on the selection of spectrometer features, which will allow for a flexible spectrometer set-up, that allows to analyze and characterize compounds from the different research areas within our institute. In addition, we will focus on the analysis of highly reactive and (air) sensitive organometallic and coordination compounds in my research group, using different mild ionization techniques. In particular the possibility to monitor reactions is an important opportunity for us to detect intermediates, catalytic resting states, or by- and decomposition products. The major goal of these investigations is the development of new environmentally benign catalytic reactions and bond activation reactions utilizating novel ligands and donor groups, as well as the concomitant investigation of the involved unprecedented reactivity patterns, with relevance e.g for energy storrage (hydrogenation-dehydrogenations).
