Massive parallelization using hundreds or thousands of processors and increasingly also graphics processor units is currently one of the most important strategies in scientific computing for finding answers to complex problems in a relatively short time. The University of Duisburg-Essen has successfully established a strong profile in digitalized research. This new large equipment application will benefit a significantly increased number of scientists and working groups at the University of Duisburg-Essen not only from engineering, but also from life sciences, chemistry, and physics that require High-Performance-Computing capacities for their research. By purchasing a supercomputer of the latest architecture, the intensive activities of the University of Duisburg-Essen in scientific computing are to be secured in the long term so that the university can continue to cover the three pillars of knowledge gain - theory, experiment, and simulation.
