In this project, unique phosphates and fluoride responsive chemosensors will be developed. Special receptor groups will be introduced into molecular spin-crossover iron(II) complexes to allow chemical control of the spin state in solution at room temperature. The change of the spin state in the presence of anions will lead to the desired colorimetric and magnetic response. The functionality, sensitivity, and selectivity of chemosensors will be evaluated. The potential of these systems to act as switchable (intelligent) MRI contrast agents will be examined.
