Project Details
Sustainable design and design verification of ultra-slim rotor blades (B03)
Subject Area
Applied Mechanics, Statics and Dynamics
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 434502799
To further increase the sustainability of wind energy, the techno-ecological potential of substituting the rotor blade structure with bio-based composite materials is being investigated in subproject B03. An extended target function for design optimisation is to be integrated into the design process, which already takes sustainability aspects into account in the early design phase. Such a radical change in design philosophy goes hand in hand with the need for advanced verification and validation procedures. Combining the digital twin with artificial intelligence and high-fidelity blade models will enable fast and accurate assessment of fatigue behaviour in structural details of the blade and thus the verification and validation of design assumptions during turbine operation in near real-time.
