For the groundwater management in central Europe, ground-based gravimetry provides a unique potential to monitor temporal variations in the subsurface water content for local areas. The atomic quantum gravimeter QG-1 of LUH will be ready for geodetic and gravimetric applications latest in 2021. This QG-1 demonstration project also faces a social challenge with respect to the sustainable use of fresh groundwater as an economic requirement. The study area overlaps with the pilot area GE-2 of the TOPSOIL project (EU INTERREG North Sea Region: groundwater management and evolution of salt-/freshwater-interface under climate scenarios).
