The goal of this project is to provide a fundamental understanding of the collective behavior of multiple ion channels in lipid membranes. By combining voltage-clamp experiments and super-resolution microscopy on connexons with statistical analysis and modeling, we will address whether multiple channels act cooperatively or disruptively, and estimate the number of reconstituted channels. The results will be of great importance to unravel the mechanism and regulation of signal transmission between cells.
