The aim of this subproject is to control damage and microstructure development during forging in a holistic way. Based on closed die forging of 16MnCrS5, it is to be demonstrated that components with increased performance can be realized if both the process control and the geometries of the intermediate stages are designed in a damage-controlled manner and if, in addition, a fine-grained microstructure is achieved.
