The new project C07 will investigate the homeostatic regulation of network function in the visual cortex in physiological and deprived sensory input by visual monocular deprivation (MD). After identifying the differential effect of MD on neuronal types and circuits and the contribution of different homeostatic mechanisms and interneuron classes to homeostatic recovery, we will now characterize the contribution of excitatory and inhibitory neurons to visual information transfer, the role of heterosynaptic plasticity in excitatory/inhibitory balance, connectivity and cortical computation, and the function of the two major cortical interneuron subtypes in cortical computation, in baseline conditions and after MD in collaboration with B11.
