Project Details
200 keV Cryo Transmission Electron Microscope
Subject Area
Basic Research in Biology and Medicine
Term
Funded in 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 455249646
A modern cryo transmission electron microscope (cryo-TEM) for single particle analysis and cryo tomography is applied for. For the processing of the data, a computing cluster is part of the application. The acquisition of the cryo-TEM is part of the new appointment of Prof. Dr. Arne Möller (main applicant) and the accompanying establishment of the Department of Structural Biology. As a platform, the devices will become part of the excellent infrastructure at the University of Osnabrück, where the necessary rooms have already been created. In the Möller group, the device will be used to determine the structure and function of membrane proteins, especially in relation to their lipid environment. This focus is also a classical focus at the University of Osnabrück, which leads us to expect an intensive interdisciplinary use of the device. The cryo-TEM will complement the recently completed CellNanOs research building and the microscope techniques already available in it with high resolution, thus closing a large existing gap.
