Project Details
Flow Dynamics and heat Transfer in a geothermal two-phase thermosyphon (TPCT) based on a helically corrugated pipe
Subject Area
Technical Thermodynamics
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 455199958
This project aims for a better understanding and modeling at the flow dynamics and of the heat transfer of evaporation in falling films within helically corrugated geothermal TPCTs. The Institute of Aerospace Thermodynamics at the University of Stuttgart (Wg. Weigand) performs on this behalf numerical DNS and RANS calculations to resolve local velocity and temperature profiles within the liquid film. These numerical calculations shall be validated with high resolution experiments in Stuttgart. The local values will be integrated used to develop an integral model of the geothermal TPCT at the Institute for Thermodynamics at the Leibniz University of Hannover, Wg. Kabelac. This model will be validated and refined using a helically corrugated vertical pipe setup in technical scale. The result of this project shall be a validated model to design and optimize geothermal thermosyphons on behalf of geometry of the corrugation and the thermohydraulicperformance.
