Since 2011, the University of Stuttgart has been offering its researchers the funding of their Open Access publications through the establishment of an Open Access Fund. The relevant funding programme of the DFG was a key factor in the establishment of this fund. In the same year, the University adopted an Open Access Policy. The Policy encourages the University's authors to publish their research results in accordance with the Berlin Declaration. As part of the institutional anchoring of Open Access, an Open Access Officer was appointed to steer the relevant activities at the University. In order to perpetuate the OA business model, the OA Fund was made permanent in March 2017. The University of Stuttgart is still committed to the transformation goal of the scientific publication system in terms of open access. The University has joined the DEAL contracts with the scientific publishers Wiley and Springer Nature. The human resources for Open Access Monitoring were strengthened. In order to increase the proportion of OA publications, the University of Stuttgart offers its members a range of OA publication options, information services and relevant advice. These include the Open Access publication server OPUS, the research data repository DaRUS and support for the founding or transformation of OA journals by hosting the software OJS.
