Fluctuation-induced nonlinear dynamics of nanomechanical systems (C01)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 425217212

Project Description

C01 explores the fluctuation-induced nonlinear dynamics, i.e. the interplay between intrinsic nonlinearities and extrinsic fluctuations of strongly underdamped, driven resonators. It relies on nanomechanical string resonators which combine high mechanical quality factors of several 100,000 and integrated dielectric control of resonator parameters from adjacent side electrodes. Major goals include the elucidation of the nonlinear and fluctuation-induced dynamics of a single resonator mode beyond the Duffing regime, including frequency comb generation via the RIFF mechanism, as well as the nonlinear dynamics of coupled two- and multi-mode systems.
