Project Description

Project B06 aims at studying spin fluctuations in magnetically ordered materials and heterostructures at high frequencies, in the range of magnetic eigen-excitations arising from spin precession and - possibly - nutation. The main goal is to use spin noise properties for the characterization of otherwise hidden magnetic material properties. The project consists of two complementary parts. In the experimental part, we use spin noise spectroscopy based on an ultrafast double-probe-probe-type magneto-optical measurement scheme to detect spin fluctuations down to sub-picosecond time scales. The theory part models spin noise quantitatively in atomistic spin dynamics simulations.
