Project Description

Establishing the new field of time-domain quantum physics is at the heart of project A06. In the next funding period, mid-infrared squeezed vacua will be generated by spontaneous parametric downconversion. The corresponding patterns of quantum noise will be analyzed directly in the time domain by electro-optic sampling. In a new setup with ultrahigh stability and enhanced bandwidth, the role of back action and curved spacetime in this methodology will be studied. Finally, we want to establish a conceptionally new route for generating synchronal pulses of quantum and thermal light via resonant and non-resonant third-order optical nonlinearities.
