This theoretical project investigates time-dependent quantum effects in the electromagnetic field. An important part of this phenomenology consists in fluctuations of the fields, both quantum and classical. Previous research has led to a theory of electro-optic sampling for a restricted class of quantum states, non-linear response functions, quantum measurements, and temporal correlations. In the second phase, we extend electro-optic sampling to characterize a much wider class of quantum states. We will also study another setting to probe fluctuations, consisting of an electromagnetic cavity coupled to a quantum system affected by fluctuations.
