Monocytes represent a heterogeneous population, which, depending on their stage of differentiation and activation, either can promote inflammation or induce resolution and repair. Time and duration of initial exogenous or endogenous triggers may determine such subsequent pro- or anti-inflammatory monocyte response patterns partially through shifts between glucose and lipid metabolism (metabolic priming). We aim at monitoring metabolism and spatio-temporal dynamics of monocytes and their functional contribution to inflammation through tracking of monocytes and dynamic metabolic imaging in murine models of autoimmunity-, hypoxia- and infection-driven inflammation.
