Project Details
Metabolic targeting of bacteria through complex carbohydrates and siderophores (A04)
Subject Area
Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy, Radiobiology
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 431460824
We aim to develop reliable diagnostic tools to differentiate between sterile inflammation and bacterial infection. We will design radiolabelled specific imaging probes based on oligosaccharides, siderophores and metallophores that are selectively taken up by bacteria. These tracers will be tested in vitro as well as in vivo using Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, allowing us to assess potential clinical applications. In mouse models, we will non-invasively follow bacterial infection and the inflammatory response over time using novel tracers developed in this and other projects in this CRC.
